Just a quick introduction:
Hi! I'm learning to fly an airplane. I'm doing so in the United Kingdom, and working towards a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) under UK Part-FCL rules.
I used to fly on home computer simulators a lot when I was in school, but stopped as I went off to university and got into my career. Now I'm into my late 30s, and inspired by a friend who's completed their PPL, I've some time and money to look at this for real.
I'm not sure what this blog will be yet, if anything, but it felt like I should write something about this process. Though there's still plenty left to do and I hope it'll be something interesting to read!
As of today: I have had a few hours of flying instruction. I'm going through the steps for my medical certificate. I'll start my (self-study) exam reading once I have books and have more awareness of when I need to sit exams.
Some things I might get to in time but let's see:
- How to prepare. I mean, I have done this, but I don't really know if I've missed anything. The summary is: flight school should help you with this anyway, but it's still worth appreciating what's involved. Not least, doing this gives a sense of how much it's going to cost.
- Class 2 medical. I found this very straightforward (so far), but I still have some things to do.
